Touch of Life

Cold cut through her skin,

seeped into her bones,

and clutched her shivering heart

as its icy grip spread

all over her body.

Stacked logs on the fireplace

could not warm her frosty breath

and heavy blankets failed

to comfort her chilled body.

Then it happened.

A tiny feeble hand

touched her heart

and blood gushed

into her body, filling

her with maternal warmth.

Her cold ears melted

in the soft babble

of cooing noises.

Her eyes trembled open

to soak in the warmth

of the tiny stranger and

she forced herself up

with outstretched arms.

    • Thank you so much for reading and commenting, Cherie. You have got a meaningful blog dedicated to taking a stand against bullying. I tried posting a comment in your blog, but couldn’t do so. Good luck with your thought-provoking posts.

  1. Oh what a lovely piece of writing dear, so beautifully you have penned down what pain a mother goes through but as soon as her bundle of joy is born, all her pain vanishes and only thing she cares about is to see a glimpse of that ray of sunshine. One can understand motherhood only when she becomes one🤗😊❤️

    • Thank you so much, Samreen. I knew this piece would resonate with you. We appreciate the contributions of my mothers only after we are blessed with a child. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this.
